A family operating system for teaching children the value of earning

Children aren't paid for simply doing what they're already responsible for. They earn by creating additional value, negotiating contracts, delivering outcomes, and invoicing their parents.

The Concept

Tiny business model for Jax & Jace

Most allowance apps teach kids "Mom gives me money." Merit teaches them scope, negotiation, deliverables, deadlines, and compensation.

By modeling chores as expected family responsibilities and creating a value-based marketplace for extra opportunities, children learn actual business mechanics and financial literacy disguised as a fun daily checklist.

The Three Buckets

A clean behavioral-economic mental model for children

🏠

1. Responsibilities

Chores expected because you are part of the family. Earns $0. (e.g. Make bed, Feed dog, Put dishes away).

💼

2. Earning Opportunities

Extra tasks to create positive value. Child can negotiate scope and counteroffer the pricing. (e.g. Read a book, help Grandpa organize garage).

🚨

3. Missed Consequences

If expected chores are missed or poorly done, it counts against earnings on payday. (e.g. Missed trash out -$2).
